Combined Defence Services (CDS) Exam – after graduation, for entry into IMA, INA, and AFA. AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) – for technical and ground duties in Air Force. (Direct Entries*) Technical Entry Schemes (TES^ / SSC Tech) – for engineering graduates. NCC Special Entry / University Entry Scheme – for NCC C certificate holders. *Direct entry for defence recruitment allows candidates to bypass traditional written exams and be directly shortlisted for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview based on specialized qualifications like technical degrees, NCC certification, or law degrees. This streamlined process is an efficient way for the armed forces to recruit individuals with specific skills for specialized roles. Candidates who clear the SSB interview and subsequent medical examination are then sent for training at a military academy. ^TES, or the Technical Entry Scheme, is a direct recruitment route for male candidates to join the Indian Army as officers in technical branches after completing 10+2 with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics). The selection process bypasses a written exam, instead relying on merit from 10+2 PCM marks and JEE Main rank to short-list candidates for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. Successful candidates receive training to become a commissioned officer with an engineering degree, without needing to appear for exams like NDA or CDS.
